Term 1’s Teacher of the Term for the 2020-2021 academic year is LTC Michael Hooper.
LTC Hooper has been a part of the FUMA for 33 years. He currently teaches Math and Spanish. Also known as “Coach” Hooper, he has been head coach of both Baseball and Football during his tenure at Fork Union. In addition to his academic and athletic contributions to the Academy, LTC Hooper is an avid reader and has a section in the Guy E. Beatty Library, named “Coach Hooper Fantasy and Sci-Fi."
A cadet who nominated LTC Hooper wrote: “Coach Hooper made the classroom environment a place where cadets didn't need to be stressed out, if there was an issue, he was happy to talk it through. We spent 25 minutes a day focusing solely on what the daily devotion meant and how it plays in our lives. He is the kind of guy that you could talk to about anything and he made learning fun. Coach Hooper made more of an effort to teach ways to remember and understand so that we could retain the information.”
The Teacher of the Term is nominated by individual cadets. The nominations are tallied and reviewed by the Teacher of the Term/Year Committee which is made up of non-academic staff members. Each nomination is read in its entirety and is checked for validity.
