Thanksgiving Leave will be upon us sooner than we realize, and now is the time to begin making your transportation plans! Below are some important updates to keep in mind.
THANKSGIVING LEAVE DEPARTURE
Leave departure will begin at the end of classes on Friday, November 20, 2020 at approximately 1230. All Cadets must have arrangements to be off campus by 1800 (6:00 pm) on Friday, November 20, 2020. Extenuating circumstances will be reviewed and approved by the Commandant.
PARENT/GUARDIAN TRANSPORTATION/PICK-UP
Cadets leaving campus by car will depart from their respective company. They must sign-out with their TAC Officer prior to leaving campus. Cadets must be picked up by the person listed on their leave form. Please be prepared to show an ID if requested. Cadets may not leave campus with anyone under the age of 21.
If a cadet is traveling with another cadet/cadet’s family or carpooling, the leave office must receive written permission from both cadets’ parents/guardians.
FUMA TRANSPORTATION
Fork Union Military Academy has shuttles scheduled to depart at 1245 on 20 November 2020 to the following locations: Richmond AMTRAK, Richmond Airport, Richmond Greyhound, Tyson’s Corner, Washington National Airport, and Dulles Airport for major leaves. Private hire drivers may be available to other locations, or at earlier/later times. See FUMA Transportation Information and Request Forms (Below) for additional information.
TRANSPORTATION INFORMATION AND FEES
All transportation requests must be made in writing (no phone calls please) and received no later than November 1, 2020. A copy of the cadet’s airline/train/bus ticket must be provided, along with request for transportation, and should be emailed to transportation@fuma.org.
UNACCOMPANIED MINORS
Cadets traveling as “unaccompanied minors” must be escorted to and from the gate of their public transportation. The determination is made by the public transportation carrier and is based on age. If your cadet is under the age limit, please email transportation@fuma.org for information and arrangements for transportation and escort.
INTERNATIONAL CADETS
Due to travel and departure times, International Cadets that are taking international flights home are authorized to depart the day prior to the end of the term for major leave breaks, if approved by the Cadets teacher, Academic Dean and Commandant’s Department. Cadets that are requesting to depart early for international flights must not depart prior to taking term finals; prior coordination must be made with the Cadets instructor. Early departure requests must be submitted 3 weeks in advance to the Commandant’s Department so that transportation requests can be submitted and approved.
LEAVE RETURN
Cadets are to return to FUMA no earlier than 0900 (9:00 am) and no later than 1900 (7:00 pm) on Sunday, January 10, 2021. Extenuating circumstances will be reviewed and approved by the Commandant.
